SEPTEMBER: Favourites

I love reading "favourites" posts, so I thought I'd do my own! It's tempting to put in all of my HG (holy grail) products that I enjoy *every* month, but I tried to whittle it down to things that especially caught my attention in the month of September! Here's what I loved...

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer
I love this primer. But it is SO expensive. I try to tell myself to just enjoy using this bottle, but that I will not repurchase as there are plenty of other primers out there that are less expensive. Something tells me that when I finish this one off, I'll be hard-pressed to keep from buying it again.

Lancome Teint Miracle & Real Techniques Stippling Brush
This is my HG foundation, so it is usually a 'favourite'. However, this is the first full month since the start of summer that I've used this, and I'm in love all over again. (I use Shiseido Sun Protection foundation in the sweltering summer months because it stays on like super glue.) Light and skin-like, yet somehow seems to cover well while making my skin look more alive and awake. Doesn't dry me out either. A complete winner. I have it in two shades - Buff 2W and Buff 6W. In winter I just use 2W, but since I still have a little "colour" from summer, I mix in some 6W. My current favourite brush to apply it with is the Real Techniques Stippling brush - I find that stippling my foundation on irritates it the least, and creates the smoothest finish.

MAC Antiqued eyeshadow
A very recent purchase, and an instant favourite. This is the copper shadow I've always wanted. MAC Coppering reads RED on me, whereas this is the ideal burnished orange-y brown glow. Love it, especially over MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow in Coil like in my Fire & Ash look.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Test My Teal
I bought this for the simple fact that I love Color Tattoos and this was a limited edition colour. When I purchased it, I honestly wasn't sure what to use it for - or if I even *would* use it. Bad bad bad. BUT, this has turned out to be a base that I use a lot with certain shadows - WnW "Club", Urban Decay Lounge and Urban Decay Loaded for example. It is nicely pigmented, blends easily, and I can see myself wearing it under plenty of greens and blues.

Maybelline Define-a-Brow pencil
I recently dyed my hair several shades darker than my natural (and *many* darker than the not-so-natural colour I've been rocking) so I was in need of a new brow pencil. I've used the Maybelline Define-a-Brow for a long time, usually in Light Blonde, so I knew I needed to look in this range. I love the consistency of the pencil, it lasts well on me, and the tip is nice and fine. I think I now own every colour they make of this, and my perfect combo to go with my new hair is...*drumroll*...Dark Blonde (to generally create the shape and fill in), and Medium Brown (to add some richness and golden undertones). Perfect.

Revlon PhotoReady 3D Waterproof mascara
I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not a fan of waterproof mascara in general. When I was young, Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof made all my eyelashes fall out. All. Of. Them. It took me a long time to even try waterproof mascara again, and honestly I find most of them too dry anyways - I like a wetter 'scara. I've tried MUCH more expensive waterproof mascaras, and vastly prefer this one. The brush made it easy for me to reach the lashes that never get coated (I have a section of lashes where they grow 3 or 4 rows back) and it was SUPER easy to remove. I typically don't wear waterproof mascara, but I've had a lot of stressful tear-inducing situations to deal with this month, so it was my go to. It served me well, so it made the list!

Thanks for looking! What are your favourites of the month?

  2. I can definitely recommend the Lancome foundation!! It's my HG and its just perfect. Really worth a try with a sample. Most people I've encouraged to try it have ended up loving it. And yeah the Revlon PR Waterproof is pretty good! It might be done soon though and I'm considering trying something different....not sure what yet.
